Outland application while in Canada on a vistor visa

hey guys, my wife has applied for pr status through Rome, but is staying in canada on a visitor visa. My question is... what happens if they request her passport while she is here in canada? can she mail her passport from here to the embassy? will they return it back to canada. also what would happen for her landing if she has been approved, and still here in Canada?

She can be in Canada while they process her application. I have seen some people post they have mailed to their embassy and gotten it back in Canada, then have crossed to America and crossed back to "land", but maybe those were only American applicants?

She might be able to mail her passport and have the Embassy mail it back. Some do, others don't (e.g., in some countries it's illegal to mail a passport).

To land, she will have a couple choices:
- She can leave Canada and land upon reentry (e.g., day visit to US is feasible if she's Italian as she doesn't need a visa for the US as long as she registers through ESTA).
- She can land within Canada. See http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp for detailed instructions internal to CIC on how they do this
