I came into Canada March 2010 with a holiday youth program - open work permit. It expires March 2011 and I would like to extend my stay in Canada. My Canadian common law partner and I are gathering the information to apply for the pr, with him sponsoring me. I would like to continue working during the period i am waiting for the permit, but my current employer can't guarantee me a job after my visa expires, so I could only apply for a open work permit extension. I was a little confused after reading some of the forum posts... some say that I continue working after my open work permit expires while I'm waiting for the response? If this correct? How long does the response take?

I am not quite sure but I have heard that Holiday Open Work Permits cannot be extended. The only way to be able to stay and work would be to get an LMO approval from a workplace and apply for a new permit all together. I would just wait for advice from a senior member or someone that has held a Holiday OWP and knows what to do in these circumstances. Best of luck to you both.
