I am a Canadian citizen and I am marrying a Pakistani girl. I want to apply for her sponsorship but at the same time, I want to apply for her open work permit. I want her to come to Canada as soon as possible.
My Canadian passport is valid till 2020 so I assume her open work permit will also be valid till 2020. My question is, if she comes to Canada on open work permit and does not work at all, what will happen to her open work permit? Are you suppose to get a job and work if you have open work permit or it is ok for you to have open work permit and not work at all?
In the mean time I want her sponsorship application to be in process too.
You can submit the open work permit application at the same time you submit your sponsorship application (if you apply inland). The open work permit would be valid for 2 years (less if her passport expires before the two year mark). We applied inland and were quite lucky, landing in 8 months. However, most on this forum would recommend that you apply outland (tends to be overall faster), with which an open work permit is not an option.
Does she already have a TRV for Canada? If not, then she would have to get one first in order for you to apply inland and get the OWP.
There isn't a requirement to work if you have an OWP.

Why would you think she would get a work permit for the validity of your passport? She doesn't qualify for an OWP just because she is married to you.
She needs to try for a TRV to come to Canada as a visitor. If she is approved and comea to Canada, you can submit an inland sponsorship application along with an OWP app. It takes about 4 months to get the OWP and it's generally valid for 2 years.
However, it's very difficult to be approved for a TRV with a Canadian spouse in Canada. Most are refused.
