Hi everyone!
I am a US citizen who has just accepted a Canadian open work permit.
I work remotely for my current job. They are a US company and would not mind if I work remotely from Canada.
What I'm wondering is, would I be able to work for this US company remotely from Canada LEGALLY, since I have the open work permit?
I would only work remotely for the duration of the work permit.
Also assuming I would be paid in USD to my US bank account?
Any help or input would be appreciated, thanks!
Yes - it's perfectly legal.
Thank you! That's what I had found from research.
My manager wants to know what (if anything) changes for them?
Also, does the fact that I may be supporting Canadian clients matter?

Nothing will change. Assuming that you will be working from home and not a Canadian branch of the US company, then there should be no issues.
Taxes wise though you will still receive a W-2 slip at the end of the year and report to CRA when you file personal taxes.
Perfect, thank you for the helpful information! Yes will be working from home for the US company.
Last question,
So the company does have a branch in Canada. Does that complicate the issue, or would I still be able to work for the US company?
Believe you will have to work out of the Canadian office. The previous situation only works if there are no Canadian offices or clients. Late at night so would like someone to confirm.
Would I need to work with the Canadian branch or would it be ok to continue working for the US branch?
