Open Work Permit - Implied Status

Hi All,

I came to Canada on 01 year temporary work permit sponsored by my employer. My wife got an Open work permit. Our work permit and Visa has expired on 04 July. We've applied for renewal (for me and my wife) before it has expired but not received the new WP yet. My wife got a job now and yet to join. As per regulations we can work in implied status.

Can she give the expired SIN to the employer?
Do you see any complications here?

I just spoke to an agent from Service Canada and I was told that she can work.

Thanks for the info. I am in the exact same situation. My wife is looking for a job with an expired open work permit.

Can you please tell me if the employer let your wife join the job with an expired work permit?

she explained the situation and they were ok. we referred them to cic website page where it has details about implied status.

so can you please confirm that your wife joined a new organization while in implied? I have same situation and little worried if legal as the SIN expires on implied status.

You can get hired while you are under implied status but most employers want to see a valid SIN before letting you work. So you will have to explain to your employer that you are legally able to work but is under implied status.
