I have a closed work permit and my daughter is studying for a bachelor's degree as an international student with a study permit. Since last year, dependent working-age children are eligible for an open work permit. I tried applying for one for my daughter, but the IRCC site doesn't show this option when selecting her current status as a student permit holder.
The goal is for her to gain work experience during her bachelor's and apply for PR after graduation, knowing that work experience gained on a study permit doesn't count for PR applications.
Can I apply for an open work permit for my daughter while she holds a study permit? Please advise.
Yes. You can apply for an additional permit. However, you must
be eligible for both permits
show the officer that you can study and work at the same time
When you apply, include a letter to explain how you’ll do this. Give details about how you’ll balance your work schedule with your studies. If you apply online, upload this letter in the Client information part of your document checklist.
