One of my friends is planning to do his masters in Ontario but the problem is that he has already used up his post graduate work permit. If he completes a masters in Ontario and tries to apply for a PNP nomination, he will not have a legal status in Canada and it's one of the requirements for an OINP nomination. Can he convert his student visa into a visitors permit until he receives the nomination and then he can apply for PR from India? Any thoughts/comments are welcome.
To be realistic, unless your friend is really lucky, he can get nomination in 6 months. Otherwise, he will be out of visitor status before getting the nomination or PR.
OINP takes almost a 6 to 12 months to get a nomination and another 16 months to get PR.
Even though job is not the requirement to apply, OINP will ask you to submit additional documents that shows your effort of searching for a job or employment letter. With a visitor visa, you can't work and not supposed to search for jobs.
