Does anyone know if I need a study visa for completing a masters program online through an online university?
I am currently working under a work permit in Canada.

No - you don't need a study permit.
 
just make sure if your degree is recognised in Canada. If you are already in Canada and if Athabasca University offers that program wha you willing to do, try to get degree from there, as that will be Canadian degree.
