Hello. Can anyone help?

I'm PR status for BC. I was there for about 5 years but left in october 2017 for the UK. Now i wish to visit again just for a few days (friends wedding).

I still have my PR card thats valid until late 2021. Even though i've been away from canada for quite a while now can i just get omn a plane with passport and PR card and get in no problem?

I was under the impression that PR cards expired if you were out of the country for 6 months or so but i suspect thats not true.

Thanks.

No such thing. Who told you that.

You can return, however as you've been away for almost 2 years already, if you have no plan to settle in Canada again and fail to meet residency obligation as a result, you may lose your PR status

As above post assuming you are planning to travel this year then you currently still have some residency credit prior to October 2017 given the rule is 2 years in the 5 years prior to any new entry so for example July 2019 back to July 2014.

If the wedding is post 10/2020 then you will start to have problems due to failed residency obligation given you will have been away for 3 years.

You have a valid PR card and passport so are good to travel and regardless as a PR you are entitled to enter the country . As always with CBSA only answer questions asked do not volunteer extra information such as shouting out no longer live in the country.
