Hello all,
From what I understand, there is a 3 month waiting period for a new resident of Ontario to qualify for OHIP and get your OHIP card. And I also am aware that you need to spend 153 of the first 183 days in Ontario to also qualify.
My question is for those first 3 months before you can qualify, do you need to spend all days of those 3 months in Ontario otherwise the waiting period resets? For example if someone becomes a permanent resident and settles in Ontario, they can't leave for the first 90 days if they want to qualify for OHIP?
They can leave for a couple of days here or there and it probably won't matter. However if they leave for several weeks or more then this effectively resets the OHIP waiting period.
Thanks for the reply. It would be for maybe a few long weekend visits (like visiting the family for holidays and such). Looks like it would not be too much of an issue.
There is a waiting period of three month as far as how long much time you need to spend in Ontario to qualify before OHIP is reinstated it is more complex. For the exact rules visit Ontario Ministry of Health, you will get the exact information.
In the interim you should buy private insurance if you are interested you can contact me directly or visit my web site www. stone-hedgefinancialgroup.a
Actually , for Ontario the waiting period 90 days regarding the OHIP policy.
Would be a good idea to buy private medical emergency plan which called Visitors to Canada.
Please let me know if you need any help.
Good luck!
