I've read multiple articles and forums about OHIP eligibility but am confused as I see most people applying for OHIP immediately after landing on PR but according to the official wesbite it says the below:
To qualify for OHIP, you must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below plus at least one of the additional requirements.
To meet the minimum qualifications you must:
be physically in Ontario for 153 days in any 12‑month period
be physically in Ontario for at least 153 days of the first 183 days immediately after you began living in the province
make Ontario your primary home
My question is how can one apply for OHIP immediately after landing when there is a minimum requirement of living in Ontario for 153 days that is over 5 months? Please help
Thanks for the reply . I am aware of the waive off but does that mean I will get OHIP immediately on landing ? What about the 153 days minimum to qualify ?

I don’t know for sure. But I thought the ‘waiting period’ that is waived referred to the 3 month period after you apply before it gets processed. Anything COVID related is covered without OHIP but I was under the impression you still need to qualify to be granted OHIP. Again, I could be wrong so I’d do some more digging.

Both. I sent them my flight ticket to show I had landed more than 153 days ago and also my permanent residency application to show I’d been given an ITA

Like I said, I’m not entirely sure. You’re best bet would be to call Service Ontario and see what they say. Normally after you apply there is a waiting period before it is issued, I thought that was the waiting period that is waived but if other people saying they got theirs straight away maybe it was the eligibility waiting period that is waived. Good luck.

It's not confusing. The waiting period is waived so you can apply immediately. Of course you still need proof of address so it may take a few days in practice. But your question has now been answered several times.
