Hello all
I was just wondering about your experience getting OHIP Card once your parents arrived in Ontario. Talking to Service Ontario, they are saying that they need Proof of Residence (Such as bank statements, utility bills, etc.). Also on Ontario's website, it says that there is no wait time and you are covered from Day 1. Both of these statements seem contradictory as how are you supposed to get monthly bank statement without being there for a month.
Please let me know as my parents are arriving and I'm not sure whether I should be buying health insurance or not.

Thanks in advance.

-Look carefully at the list of things accepted - they may/should be able to get occupants' insurance, or a lease for a place they will be living. We did this and got OHIP the first days out of quarantine. (Obviously I don't know whether they will have to do quarantine). Surely there are other things that can be done on/prior to arrival.

-I believe technically all are covred but if they need medical care prior to getting OHIP card, may have to pay and get reimbursed later. This is not ideal and I do not know how well it works in practice.
