NYC consulate - Picking up ticket lost

I applied for the TRV on July 13 and I'm still under security checks. At the time of application the visa officer took away my ticket (which has a number on it and was given to me when I entered the waiting room) Now I heard a lot of people having the similar problem. Some of them said the guards at the door simply didn't allow them to get in. Does anyone have similar experience? What should I do if I don't have that damn ticket... Your reply would be greatly appreciated!
