I'm starting this thread for those who might be (or already are) in the red flag zone due to NON-TRADITIONAL RELATIONSHIP/MARRIAGE. Please post your stories here, application status, and advice for other members. I hope we can inspire and guide others!
Let me start.
I am sponsoring my husband. Here's our details:
Good points: We are from the same country, age, religion, and status in life. We have met both of our families.
Danger side: We met online thru our common friend. When we met for the first time, we got married after 45days of being together. Most of our "Proof of Relationship" are based on our online relationship.
My husband and I met through an online game. We fell in love and we were committed to each other but we didn't meet in person until a year and a half later. He stayed for a month on his first visit but before he left, we decided that we were going to get married the next time we see each other (which was 4 months later - at this point we were crazy for each other and had the rest of our life planned out already ) We got married in the city hall with only his sibling (on his side) and my parents and a couple of friends in attendance. His visits were longer and more frequent after that but in our application (submitted last June 2015, 3 months after we got married!), aside from the pictures we had during his two visits as well as our wedding day pictures, I would say 30% of our application were online chat/gaming logs. I'm not gonna lie, I worked really hard on our application and made it as organized/detailed as possible - all pages were numbered with index pages with a short summary for every section. Our additional answers for form IMM 5490 was about 25-30 pages long with 4-6 pictures on them which were clearly dated/labeled. I was meticulous with collecting receipts/tickets from movies/date nights and I included scans of them to prove the dates on the pictures we took. I haven't met most of his family (except through Skype) so instead I have a dozen screenshots of Facebook interactions/messages congratulating us on our wedding, etc. Our application package was about 2 inches thick haha I definitely overdid it with providing proofs and on one of our GCMS notes, I saw a comment that said "excess chat logs were shredded" but I have no regrets. ;D
Yesterday, my ECAS status was changed to Decision Made and I also got an email saying my passport was ready for pick up at the visa center. My husband is coming back in a couple of weeks and hopefully soon we'll be driving to Canada together
oh and I'm also from a non-visa exempt country residing with a temporary visa in a different country (the US) and I have never been to Canada even though it is only 1.5 hours away by plane. I was going to apply for TRV but I was scared that it might get denied and affect our application. Good thing my husband doesn't mind flying to me often!
