In form imm 0008(Schedule 8), check Section 5. Your exp in Canada -- Its asking for NOC code
I was on open work permit during my exp in Canada.
Do I need to fill this code here, in my case?
Please advise.

Of course! NOC code is one of the factors that determines your eligibility! It does not have anything to do with your open work permit or closed work permit! They want to know if the job that you had was eligible during your work experience.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I had 2 employers in Canada. So do I have to ask them what NOC code I was working on? Or I can put according to my knowledge and job duties?
Also I was working as a contractor for 6 months and for the next 7 months I was working as a consultant(full time) in a consulting firm.
However, my previous non Canadian experience is of a senior software engineer(Java/J2ee). And for my Canadian exp, my designation was consultant and I was in the software consulting side.

Which NOC shall i apply in? 2173 or 2171?
Also is there something like some NOC codes have more weightage/preference than the other one?

please advise.
