No Guarantor for Canadian Passport

Hello! If I cannot find a Guarantor to sign the passport application Portion, how much does it cost to sign before Notary official? Could they do it at Service Ontario? Someone advised that the member of Parliament can do this but I guess it could take time and I am doing the urgent processing of the passport. Thank you!

Service Canada cannot sign off as guarantor. And neither can MP. See the link, get reference letters, and sign statuatory form in front of:

• commissioner for oaths or for taking affidavits
• lawyer
• notary
• justice of the peace

Cost depends on notary or law office, but expect around $100 if through a law office.

I actually have people who can be the Guarantor but they don’t want to give their passport number. Someone said they don’t have to do This, is This true? Because in the application there is a place for passport number of Guarantor..

Well, the fact that there's a place in the form for the guarantor's passport number IS a proof that what they told you is wrong.

One of the requirements of the guarantor is to have a passport so a person has to give their passport number.

Someone that doesn't know you personally can never be a guarantor.

It's a silly requirement and one can understand people hesitating to give their passport number even if you kmow them well.

The alternative is to get a declaration form and fill it out front of a commisoner of oath, notary etc. Commisoner oath is usually very cheap at least where I live. They're still not acting as a guarntor, they're just notarizing your affidavit. (Someone on the forum previously said you need to go to Service Canada or Passport office (I forget which) to get the declaration form since the form is not online).

To compensate for no guarantor, you'll also need to come up with two more references (total 4). References can be anyone you know, they don't have to be Canadian citizens or live in Canada.

I dont know about urgent but I think someone got their expedited processing completed within 10 days with no guarantor.

Maybe they’re confusing the reference and guarantor requirements. Guarantors must always provide a valid passport number.

You can ask your family doctor or accountant or may be landlord they will charge you for their time though. My family doctor asked $60 per application.

No, service Ontario don’t offer that type of service. Just look online so many people offer this service

No I haven't. I was enquiring for a colleague. Got our office manager to be his guarantor.
