I am Canadian born and have recently gotten married overseas. My wife is 17 years old. The country in which we were married allows a 17-year-old to marry. Our marriage is fully recognized by the government of my wife's country.
My understanding is that I have to wait for my wife to turn 18 before it is possible for me to sponsor my wife to Canada.
1) In the meantime, what can I do during the waiting period to prepare an excellent sponsorship application?
2) What kinds of documents should I start preparing now so I can quickly and without rejection/delay get approved?
3) Any tips and or advice would be greatly appreciated.
How old are you? Depending on your age her age will be a red flag. Whether marriage at a young age is common in her (and yours) country/ethnic background and her religion will also be considered. To prepare for her sponsorship you should prepare proof of how many times you have met in person and how long you have spent together if you have been living in Canada. It is important to continue visiting after the marriage. Keep proof of the the visits. Keep records of your communication. Prepare a selection of pictures over time. Keep records of any monetary support. Would read through the sponsorship application and that should give you a good idea.
