I'm trying to sponsor my common law partner (Australian) and we have been using the IMM5491 checklist since November. Now we're only missing a few things and I just found a recent checklist which seems to be more specific to our case, the IMM5589 checklist.
Do we need to fill in both or do I now have to dump the IMM5491 checklist?
hi, if you are using forms from November, then you are not using the current forms. The application package was updated in January, and old forms will not longer be accepted. I'd recommend reading the new guide to make sure you're using the most up to date forms. The checklist is significantly different and "relationship proof" requirements have changed with the new package. The correct checklist to use is IMM5533. IMM5491 is not even listed on the new checklist, so you really need to make sure you're submitting the correct paperwork. Below is a link to the current guide:
The new application kit was released on December 15th, and they stopped accepting the older forms at the end of January. Just double-check the forms to make sure there weren't any updated versions right before you mail everything off.
I would basically recommend trying to "forget" everything you did with the old application forms, and thoroughly read through the new guide.
no, it shouldn't be assumed the forms will be updated monthly. there is no way to know when they do updates. the best thing to do is to double check the forms right before submitting.
