I was granted a 3-year Post Graduation Work Permit around 9 months ago and I'm currently travelling to Ontario, Canada this October. Since it's a Post Graduation Work Permit or an "Open Work Permit", I will start looking for a job when I arrive in Canada. That means I will have no provincial health insurance.

1) Do I need to buy travel insurance before arriving in Canada, covering the entire duration of my Work Permit (2 years and 15 days)
2) Do I need to have a valid job offer before travelling on a Post Graduation Work Permit?
3) what are the documents that I should prepare before my travel?

Thank you all !

  1. No. You should be eligible for OHIP. You can buy a private insurance that will cover period until you get OHIP. You don't want to know how much it will cost to get a private insurance for 2 years and 15 days )))
  2. Used to be like that. They removed that rule in Summer 2021.
  3. Valid TRV visa (the stamp in the passport), valid PGWP.
