Hi All,
I am yet to received my PR card and want to travel to India for a short trip.

Is it possible to apply for PRTD before I travel? How does CIC validate that we are outside Canada?

What’s the answer please? Am in the same situation
Unless things have changed, you can only apply for a PRTD from outside of Canada. If you are traveling abroad for only a couple of weeks, it might be difficult to obtain the PRTD in time to return (via a commercial carrier).

If you can enter the U.S. (via a commercial carrier) you could then cross into Canada at a land PoE without the need for a PRTD. Just produce your landing document or expired PR Card to show to the CBSA officer.
