Hello All.
I wanted to get some help with this and see if someone can shed me some light as to what I can do.. I am a US citizen and my husband is a Canadian citizen. He has summited my paperwork for Canadian immigration and we are in a waiting phase to get that approved and complete. In the mean time until the case is complete I am staying with my husband in Alberta Canada where he lives. My questions to all is what options do I have to get health insurance in Canada as I am not working there and until I am permanent resident my husband said that he cannot add me. Is this true... Can someone please shed some light to me as to what can be done and what I can get. Possibly a private insurance.

Thanks once again.

Hey,

Alberta is actually one of the only provinces in Canada where you don't need to be a resident to have insurance coverage.
If you're married to a Canadian, residing in Alberta, your husband can add you to his provincial coverage even if you are on a tourist visa, before you get your PR. It's one of the only province that waives the 3 months waiting period, and allows non canadian spouses to be covered under their partners' insurance. BC as well but it's more difficult to do, while for Alberta a lot of people on this forum have been able to get coverage.
Your husband should call Alberta healthcare and ask to add you. I have not done it myself, but quite a few people have, and it hasn't proven difficult.
Good luck,
Sweden
