After my initial rejection under CEC - I am planning to reapply this time with the help of a lawyer or immigration firm. Can you please suggest any good one based in Canada or India with good track record with CEC applications?

I can recommend Randolph Hahn, he's a partner at Guberman & Garson law firm in Toronto. He is past Chairman of the Immigration division of the Ontario Bar Association; he is very attentive and thorough, and seems to genuinely care about his clients and having successful outcomes. You can find him easily online....
The only mistake I did was not to include a cover letter and a letter from my manager that they can't issue any additional information - everything else will be the same!

Just with the hope that the lawyer will provide a more fool proof and exhaustive cover letter than what I can provide...proofread my documents and let me know if I am missing a cover letter somewhere else.

I totally doubt you were rejected because there is no cover letter, as there doesn't have to be one at all. The document checklist and forms say it all.
The only reason why I can see the missing cover letter to be a problem is that it was supposed to explain the situation as to why there was no employer reference letter attached. I suggest try getting the letter again, and if not given, write a letter and include supporting documents such as pay stubs, T4, NOA, letters from colleagues.
