I am engaged to a Filipina who was married in the Philippines to a Japanese foreigner, but they got divorced in Japan after 5 years marriage. My question is can we get married in another country seeing how the no divorce law in the Philippines and it will be recognized in Canada as a legal marriage so I could sponsor her in the future? Any info would be appreciated

As long as the divorce is legally recognized in the country it was obtained it shouldn’t be a problem.

Well there's another option to sponsor her as common law partner or conjugal . But spouse that can't be because there's no divorce in Philippines , annulment will take decades and lots of money .
