In Generic Application Form For Canada, does Passport qualifies as National Identity Document, as in India we don't have specific document for National Identity.

I think u can use ur driving license as national identity document. I am including my driving license from canada

You must check no, in the box, as we don't have the national identity number yet, passport is a travel document and not considered as national identity document

Drivers license are issued by provincial government which again will not be considered as national identity document

yeah, u have to tick no if u dont have any national document...

Just to add.. the ambitious UIDAI project of the Government of India will provide UID Card which is a basically a National Identity Document but is not yet recognized by the International community.

Sooner or later, once the loopholes are addressed... this is going to be the NID for the ones from India.

Definitely NOT.

Indian Driving License / Voter ID Card / PAN Card / Ration Card > None of these qualify as a National Identity Document. You have no choice but to tick 'NO' in the appropriate section in the application.

No. If you your country doesn't issue a National Identity Document, then you select No, and go onto the next question.

Thanx PMM, to be clear with what u said, does it mean that I can't use my canadian driving license as the national id. document since i am not yet a canadian resident or citizen??

First of all, Canadian driver's license is not a national ID, even assuming if it is, you still cannot use it as it was not issued by your country(as PMM said)

Also,Canada doesn't have national ID card yet

When I called CIC to ask about national id document, they said I can use the Canadian drivers license if I dont posess any ID from my country of origin. I wrote my driver's license number on the form and a attached a copy of it.
