my wife last name as per identity card is of her father's , we didn't change it that time but now I would be changing it as it can cause some legal problems . If my wife last name in IELTS result is of her father's and in passport and other document her last name is mine would that be a problem ? I can provide CIC my marriage certificate and her birth certificate , birth certificate would show her father's name and marriage certificate would help them understand why in passport her name is mapped to mine . I can also provide a note explaining the situation

Please comment on if this would be acceptable or if anyone has done like this ?

As long as you provide the supporting documents, and explain any discrepancy, CIC will definitely understand. It is not an out-of-the-world issue, so don't worry.
