My wife has a job offer in Toronto. The employer is willing to sign her up for a 1Y contract.
It will be a 1Y contract only and it will not be renewed afterwards.
Assuming that we go for it and get a 1Y work permit for my wife, during that 1Y stay in Canada, what are my options to:
1) find an employer that will be willing to hire me in my profession (details below)
2) request and be granted with a work permit for myself before my wife's work permit expires
3) after 2~3 years of work to apply and be granted with a PR
Some details about us.
We are a family of three - me (32y old) my wife (32y old) and son (3y old).
I have:
- a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from a college out-side of Canada.
- over 5 years experience of work as a software developer in a global firm (headquarters in US).
- good English and a high grade in both TOEFL and TOEIC exams.
My wife has a 12y high-school certificate from a high-school out-side of Canada.

1. Everything depends on your wife's job description. If her job is NOC A, B or O you can apply for a spousal open work permit. If you wife has just a high school education, I fail to see that she would be getting a skilled position, so if it is semi-skilled NOC C or D, then you are not eligible for an open work permit.
2. If her position is semi-skilled, then for you to work you would have to find an employer who is able to get a Labour Market Opinion after advertising the position and not be able to find a Canadian or PR before you could apply for a work permit.
3. Until you find the job and have either worked in a skilled position for at least a year, you might be eligible to apply under the Canadian experience class, but that is all speculation.
