Are there any income requirements that my spouse has to meet in order to sponsor me? He works part time hours on minimum wage. He lost his full time job last year from no fault of his own (company staff cuts) so his income isn't what it used to be. I would however be living at his house with his family (parents and sister) when I move to canada. We are only young (23 and 25) and want to save money together so we can get a nice place. Do you think he will be elligable to sponsor me? I have had advice from an IO and they said for spousal applications there are no requirements but I just want to be sure!

There are no income requirements for spousal sponsorship (that may change with dependant children perhaps...), but the sponsor has to 'support' the applicant financially if needs be for up to 3 years.

The application forms do ask for tax forms (option-c) of the sponsor and there are salary questions.

I think the main reason for this is that they are more concerned whether the sponsor is on some form of income support or otherwise which may prevent them from supporting their spouse.

But back to the main point, no, there are no income pre-requisites.

The sponsor does not need any income to sponsor a spouse or partner.
Still, the visa officer wants to see that plans have been made for living arrangements, because if there are no plans and no obvious way to support the applicant the VO may feel that the marriage is not genuine. So include proof such as letters from his parents that you will be staying at their house until the two of you have saved enough money for your own place.
