my partener was recently on welfare and now wants to sponsor me

Hi! I would really appreciate any help with my and my partner's current stuation:

My partner was on welfare for more than one year and recently got off it and now she has a minumum wage job.
Another complicating factor is that the welfare department for some reason now thinks that she had a non-declared income while she was on welfare (which is not true) and now it wants her to pay 5 thousant dollars back to the government.

So my question is:

Once she has this welfare situation solved + proves that she has a minumum wage job, can she still quilify as my sponsor?

Like, I know that there is no minimum income requirement for sponsoring a spouse, but you still need to prove that you have ways to support your spouse in case of need, right?
So, doesn't the fact that she was on welfare for a long time+ having a shi*y job now disquilify her as being able to financially support me?

Please, help this poor (not in figurative way) couple out!

She can sponsor you as soon as she's off welfare, for example if she gets off today she can apply to sponsor you tomorrow, there's no minimum requirement needed all they care about is that she's not on welfare, I don't know about the fact of her owing $5000 but she can get a letter saying she's no longer receiving assistance cic will of course do their own check to verify.

You must show that you will be able to support yourselves in Canada without welfare. Unless you have other financial resources, such as savings, investments, family assistance, your income etc., CIC may very well have concerns about how you will support yourselves. What else can you show?

They also take into account the earning potential of the sponsored person (you). You can and should also show how you intend to gain employment, education or what savings or other financial support you have.

She's going to want to make sure she is no longer on the welfare list, whatever that means for your province. Hope you get that sorted out soon! I'm curious how they got the idea that she earned $5,000. Was it in a bank statement?
