Hello Guys,
My journey so far has been very exciting here in Canada. I landed on 10th Jan and was looking for opportunities as a Food Safety and Quality specialist. I had around 18 interviews (5 face to face ) and most of them went well, however, I couldn't land anything as they wanted some local Canadian experience.
I had done my research and the local standards are pretty much similar to those of international standards. Got few more interviews lined up this week, Hoping to land something soon.
From what I could gather, the whole "canadian experience" issue is a pain and you will never land a job if you cant get out of this circle ( no jobs ->no experience -> no jobs ).
Ask yourself... why would they call you for a face to face interview just to let you know you dont have "canadian experience" if they already saw this on your CV?
I am pretty confident ( based on the number of interviews ) that your CV is great, therefore they have no issue to interview you ( by phone or face to face ), but if I am to guess I think you might be lacking on the "face to face" side of things.
Please dont get me wrong... we all do get nervous about it and another thing I read is that they have a slighty diferent way of see your strenghts and weekness.... so my advise to you is:
1 - Reseach about face to face interviews ( canadian style if possible )... what to do or not to do, etc... be the master of the living room if you know what I mean.
2 - Get around the whole "canadian experience"... do so by teling them your working practicies... show them that you are hard work, team player, etc.... ( that is if they are not saying this as an excuse ).
3 - If necessary get an "undisered" job just to get the bloody "canadian experience" out of the way... they dont even care if you worked at McDonalds and are now applying for a hotel job... they want to believe that you already had experience working with other canadians and know how to work canadian style.
