I am a canadian citizen living overseas with my husband. My children are canadian citizens.. elder son is working and younger one is studying engineering in the university. My husband was holding a PR CARD which expired June 2008. HE DID NOT TRAVEL TO CANADA SINCE THEN.
Now he wants to cancel so that he can apply for a visit visa to enter Canada. Will his surrending PR status affect my child whose health card probably is linked to his because when we landed in Canada in the year 2000, we applied together as a family.
I am very confused and do not know what is the best thing for him to do. Is there any possibility that he may be re-considered even after his PR status is lost.
As long as you are accompanying your husband, your husband retains his PR status. If he needs to return to Canada, he can apply a travel document from the nearest Canadian consulate. Expiry date of PR card does not necessary mean lost of pR status.
Thanks for your response. I have another question... I have not declared myself as non resident. So when he goes to apply for his travel document, I would have to mention that I have been away for a specified period of time. Will that affect my status as a Canadian? I am not working overseas, just a housewife.
