I'm hoping someone might be able to give me some direction. My father was born in Halifax in 1918. I was born in the US in 1951. I would like to apply for a Canadian Citizenship certificate. If I understand the instructions correctly, this means I need to send the CIC my birth certificate and my father's, along with the form and fees.
My problem is that my father passed away in 2001 and Service Nova Scotia won't send me the certificate because I'm not him, or a lawyer, or the executor.
I wasn't expecting that. I'm flummoxed.
Is there anything I can do?
I guess the rest of the questions stem from that. If I need that birth certificate to apply for proof of citizenship, and the statistics office won't provide it, then I've found a Catch 22. Is this my situation?
