Depends on how long a visit you are given at the port of entry normally 6 months.
 
Ok so there is no standard duration, for example 180 days at a stretch or something ? Wont it be difficult to schedule flights and stuff if there is no certain duration mentioned ?

Yes, 6 months or 160 180 days as you put it. There is always a fee if you tried to change your flight schedule (as per my experience), and your travel agent will be able to advice you with what days/dates usually are blocked (more expensive).
 
Forgive my ignorance, so does this mean in my case , i have 1 years visa. I can mention i want to stay for 180 days and they will allow me to stay that long ?

No, the officer will usually stamp your passport with your date of arrival and that's it. :)
