I am confused whether to give pursue MS or MBA.

My Academics are good and I am having work Experience as well for 2+ years in IT firm - TCS.

I am enlisting some points which I observed for both MS and MBA, Do reply :

MS : Only IELTS Exam will be enough but My B.Tech was in Electronics and I want to pursue Course Based Masters in IT related stream so might be the case of Course Mismatch. Also MS is technically oriented and I am not interested in very Technical Stuffs as my profile is in Testing - SAP and I could not find any Masters course in SAP from Canada.

MBA: Costly and I have to give GMAT but I am having little inclination for MBA ( except it is within my Budget and I get some scholarship )

Comparing the Cost involved and as per my my profile, Which one would you guys recommend and please don't say that it is up to you what you want to do in future :)

Please let me know what are the chances of getting Scholarship if I apply for MBA after giving GMAT. I have heard that for Course Based Masters i.e. M.Engg , it is almost impossible to get funding for international Students

Very high score in GMAT and high academics are needed for scholarship in MBA, secondly u have no management related experience to go for a MBA in a good university, so in my opinion go for masters in ur field...

@Momi

I have shared my profile earlier with you , it says :

10th - 87%
12th - 82%
B.Tech - Electronics 74 %
Work Ex - 2 years only

So in this case also , It would be tough to get scholarship for MBA ??

The thing is Masters and MBA are almost of same cost in many Univ ( MBA might have little edge in terms of price )

Also, there might be course mismatch problem for masters .

You can go for MBA in some college, MBA has good scope for getting jobs in various fields in canada. Moreover its good for getting PR
Your work experience wont be a problem but you have to take care of other things like good funding and ties to country
Yes MS can be rough for you if you have no interest in learning technical subjects
One of my cousins just completed MBA from a Vancouver college, he has done his graduation in computer science and had 2 years gap

Could u please suggest some low budget universities . I am not asking for univ which accept without work ex or GMAT bt it should be within affordable Budget./tuition fees

When u say Vancouver college ...is it VIU ??? VIU dont require any work ex or GMAT bt I wNt to cash my 2. Yrs of Work exp

Why u think that PR chances are high after MBA and not that much high after MS ??

Some Average universities don't require GMAT under some conditions ...........

@MOMI

I am pretty much sure that those Univ which dont require GMAT are not reputed one ,,,rather than they are B Grade schools.As per my understanding it will be a waste of money to go .Also, I am having work Ex too

Could you share some Univ name which are low Budget Universities. I will then start preparing for GMAT

Other than this I am not sure whether I can start preparing now for GMAT (being in Software Industry) and apply within time for fall intake Sep'13.

Still I am very much confused between GMAT and M.Engg. I am not having inclination towards research field at all but then for Course based M.Engg program, i require only IELTS and for GMAT , I have to go for GMAT + IELTS.

For M.Engg course, there might come a case of Non-relevant Background ( B.Tech in Electronics but want to pursue Masters in IT related field )

PLEASE HELP TIGER !

go for Mengg electronics thats the best non mismatch.....MBA could be mismatch too cant be sure. Ur experiance is not very useful as its in SAP(a specific software. there may be other PM softwares) ....in my mind SAP testing is like call center jobs no offense, professors wont be too impressed. this is just my opinion in the end its ur choice r.

@ Mead

:D Nothing like that, SAP is German based firm it provides ERP Solutions and Implemented in mot of the companies in India.

First I could not find any relevant course related to Masters in SAP and second, I am not interested in pursuing further Education in Electronics.

I am asking between M.Engg (Course Based ) and MBA Program within affordable/low Budget, if u can help !!!

like i said SAP is a software...u wouldnt find masters in a software e.g. Masters in microsoft word. M engg in computer science is risky and exp not relevant and possibles case of mismatch during visa. so ur choices remain MBA and M engg in electronics. and out of that Mengg electronics looks like a better choice

If i were in your situation, i would have given GMAT and would have tried to score good. I would have simultaneously applied in both a scholarship and non-scholarship programs (so that i don't waste time). If i had got the scholarship, then well and good, otherwise would have gone for the self financed option.

But first you need to decide whether you want an MS or an MBA program for yourself. Since you are an SAP operator i would suggest an MS over MBA at the moment.....

@hasankhan27,

Dude, you are suggesting me both the things. Yes, I am having work Exp in SAP but there is no any Masters in SAP so it won't help.

Beside, there might be the case of Non-relevant Background ( as my Graduation was in Non-IT field ) ..What do u think...would it create problem ?? in any Case I am going to shoot this query to the concerned dept in individual Universities whether I should apply or not.

Also, I need to figure out some good and low Budget Univ for MBA. The time is not enough as I require at least 3 months from now to prepare for GMAT and Universities are having deadline by March for Sep'13 Intake. I need to take call quickly.

I have head that it would be tough shot to grab a Schoarship for either MBA or M.Engg Course . Is it correct ????

Tell me one thing, this Course based Masters is Job oriented ??? or still it has got flavors of some Thesis/Synopsis/Technical projects ???? as I am not at all interested in doing further study after Masters.

The only thing I want is to wrap up my Education and land in a descent Job which ultimately leads me to PR so that I can Work over there and able to repay my Education Loan quickly.

Now , Suggest what should be my Call MS or MBA

I don't think the university will reply any visa related questions as they don't want to take responsibility of anything, so that later people get angry at them. But i have heard of cases similar to you, one of my relatives did MBA from Canada after bachelor's and work exp in mechanical engineering

I have little research on the MBA programs so i cannot tell you about that, but for MEng courses you won't get any scholarship (you might get them once you start your classes, but not with the offer of admission). As for MASc (research based), in Canada you are offered assistanceship to a professor, the student has to help the professor in his/her research and in return gets paid.....its just like a scholarship and more valued in terms of after graduation jobs than an MEng course. But obviously getting admission in MASc is highly competitive!

MEng does involve a final semester thesis/project :P

Everyone wants to get a decent job and a PR.....it all depends upon luck, fate, hardwork and contacts ;)

ONLY YOU YOURSELF CAN DECIDE WHETHER YOU WANT TO DO MBA OR MS......YOU HAVE TO DECIDE TO WHICH PATH YOU WANT TO TAKE YOUR CAREER.....BOTH DEGREES ARE EQUALLY GOOD

Best of Luck :)
