Hi everyone,

I was offered a job in Montreal in the film industry and moving there end of this month from Egypt. I have a 11 month contract starting January and a 2 year worker visa. I also have a pre-approved letter for the work permit.

The other day I was instructed by email to plan my flights so that I land in either Toronto or Vancouver to apply for my C-14 and work permit. When I asked about this they said that my permit category requires this.

I can’t find anything online about work permit categories nor why I just can’t get it from the Montreal airport which will be more convenient.

Anyone know what this is about?

That makes zero sense. Work permits can be issued at any international airport.

Who told you that you must land in either Toronto or Vancouver?

The company’s immigration department.

I'm not in that industry. Maybe there's a reason why they are making this recommendation. But again, work permits are issued at all international airports (not just Vancouver and Toronto).

Any idea where I can look to maybe find an explanation? Thanks

My gut feeling is that there is something suspicious about all of this. Maybe something to do with a CAQ? I see at least one "red flag".

1. You guess is probably right, the company never bothered with a CAQ.

All I gathered is that there is something called C-14 exemption which basically means I’m exempted from LMIA due to my position being in the film industry.

Ah - hadn't thought of that.
