Hello, first off, thanks to all who reply with helpful information!
To break it down, I have a partner in Canada, I currently reside in the US. I want to move to Canada, work and assist my partner.
How do I go about this, what is the quickest way, what are the difficulties, and what can I do to avoid obstacles?

1. You can get married and your sponsor you. Your partner cannot be on an social assistance.
2. If common law and can prove 12 months living continuously together your partner can sponsor you.
1&2 take about a year.
3. You find an employer who can hire a Canadian. Employer files for LMIA and then you apply for closed work permit. Takes months to process.

If you go to Canada and get married, you stay in Canada and apply inland. With inland processing, you can apply for an open work permit. Can take anywhere from 4-6 months to get a work permit while sponsorship is processing. If you apply Outland from the US, you wait for spousal processing to be completed without a work permit.
3. is not really an option unless you get a job offer and employer pays $1k files for LMIA and proves no Canadian or PR can do the job. You can’t work while the permit is being processed. You can only work on a work permit.
