Me and my wife are Canadian PRs. We are planning to move to Canada, but we just had a baby who is a US citizen. Can we move to canada with our baby and file for PR from inside canada? We have started filling out the sponsorship application for the baby in order to apply as soon as we enter Canada, but we would like to know what should we tell the officers at the border and if they will provide him with a TRP or a visitor visa without much trouble since he is from a visa exempt country. Is there anything that we must do to make sure that he is not going to be returned back at the border. Could forum members Leon, Qorax or somebody else who has experience in a similar situation please help us.

There is no inland sponsorhsip for children on their own, so you will have to apply outland, via the US ( well it will be Ottawa as a VO but that's for US residents). Make sure that you download the outland application package.

At the border, explain your plan. You can already pay the fee, and show that you have started filling out the forms, to apply as soon as you're in Canada. With a small baby, the officers will probably not have an issue and will give him a 6 months visitor visa, that you can extend later on to cover for the time of the application ( there is no implied status with outland).

one thing to check though - as you are PRs, you must be able to fulfill the residency requirements as CIC will be looking closely at it when processing your application. If you don't fulfill the requirements, then you will have to go back to Canada and wait until you can fulfill the requirements before sending your application.

Good luck,
Sweden
