dear all, need your help with driving license information. i have seen this thread on web and need some help.
FIRSTLY:
1. Take a 'Letter of Authentication' (in English) from RTA, Dubai stating "more than 24 months" driving experience in our country. in my case i only have 1 year and 6 months old license
2. RTA issues it for AED 60 (in English), which is an explanation of our Driving License & includes a 'non-violation' report.
3. Both of the above can be combined in one letter.
4. Or obtain an International Driving License* from 'Arabian Automobiles Association' or 'Emirates Driving Institute'. do you think international license will help as someone told me that even dubai normal license will work for 2 months*
This is nothing but a translated copy of our UAE driving license. and obtain a RTA 'non-violation' letter separately.
With the foregoing, we can drive a car in Toronto for three (3) months (only).

If you are coming to Canada as a temporary resident (i.e. work or study permit) according to Alberta law, you can drive up to ONE year with an international driving license. Google service Alberta license for temporary residents as I am unable to post a link here.
As per Alberta law, if you are moving to AB, Canada as a permenant resident, you can drive with your international license up to two or three months.
I have a friend who just moved from the UAE and had a letter issued by the Dubai traffic department but not sure how many years of driving experience. When he went to apply for his license here, he was asked to have the letter legalized by the UAE embassy in Ottawa (cost him $50 plus shipping both ways) and he got it back within a week.
