moving from u.s.a. to canada with personal belongings WHATS THE PROCEDURE??

I am canadian born but have lived in the u.s for years. I am in the process of moving back to canada with my husband who is a u.s. citizen. we plan on starting his paperwork for family sponsership as my spouse once we get settled in canada.My question is this...We plan on driving a u-haul plus both vehicles filled with all our personal belongings across the border. I know we need a form filled out with an inventory of items to turn in but what is the rest of the procedure? Does my husband get a temporary visiting visa? Do we have to leave all personal property at the border to be checked and come back for it later? If anyone could give me the correct info I would greatly appreciate it THANK YOU!

You might have a problem with your husband's entry into Canada, because they may not be convinced he is coming for a visit. In that case, you will likely be sent to the secondary inspection and will need to prove that you have filed or are about to file your application. At a MINIMUM, make sure you have paid the application fee ($75 sponsor + $475 applicant) online and have a copy of the receipt to demonstrate. IDEALLY, you want to have a copy of your completed application, including the payment of the application fee.

CBSA may grant him temporary visitor status (issuing a visitor record) good for anywhere from 1 day to 3 years (most likely is 6-12 months). Once you are inside Canada, he can apply for extensions online. They also have the option to refuse him entry - it isn't likely, but if you just show up at the border with no evidence that you are sponsoring for PR the likelihood of it goes WAY up. Of course, if your husband has other status in Canada (e.g., a NAFTA work permit) then there won't be an issue at all.

You will need to fill out one B4 form and as many B4A forms as necessary. The one time I did that, I had one form per box in the U-Haul, so if they wanted to check anything it would be very easy. They didn't even open the U-Haul trailer to look at it. They just stamped every form, gave me a copy and off I went.
