Hey,
In my indian passport, my mother's name is wrong because my birth certificate have same wrong name. My mother's all documents including her passport has correct name.
I currently have work permit (finished study last year).
Now I want to apply for PR.
How to fix the situation. I have affidavit proving both names belong to my mother.
Should I change my mother's name in my passport before applying for PR? or Affidavit will work when sponsoring my mother for pr in future?
Also I am concerned about the possibilities after she comes here. Maybe insurance or other paperwork might not accept such indian affidavits.
My sister is getting canadian PR soon and her passport has correct name so getting sibling points will also become complex due to this different mother name issue.
I had the same issue. You have two options - if you are not in a hurry, you can attempt to change her name in your passport and birth certificate (will be challenging from abroad). In my case the first letter was changed from an K to an V (in all my docs - error gets propagated as we continue to use them). The second option is to fill out the template below and attach your birth certificate as proof.
Use this template:
1 - Ask your mother to sign the LOE (below)
2 - Attach a third document (Pan/license/voters ID etc) that proves same address or same dob.
I did the same and it was accepted.
Letter of Explanation Template
I, shobhaben (____last name), residing at ____, hereby declare on the 14th day of August 2018, the following:
I am the same individual as referred to in the Passport (original document no. ____) as ‘shobhanaben alias shobhaben'. This alias is in common use and an accepted and recognized identification. The attached ____ (Pan/license/voters ID) (document no.___) demonstrates the use of both aliases.
Furthermore, it is customary in our vernacular language of (Gujarati/hindi/tamil etc) to add the suffix ‘ben’, for female, which means ‘sister’. The suffix is commonly used in official and legal documents as a sign of respect and with the understanding that the suffix is not a part of the individual's name.
I make this solemn declaration, conscientiously believing it to be true and knowing that it is of the same force and effect as if made under oath.
