If you applied before June 11 then you do not need to take the test/interview. The interview is just generic questions to judge your english/french speaking skills. Questions from tell me about yourself, hobby, about your work etc..,
For your minor again under old rule it is 18 under new rule it is 14. So based on your kids age and the time you applied will have to write or not write the test/interview
by old rule under 18 or above 55 need not write or attend interview
by new rule under 14 or above 64 need not write or attend interview
