Minor study in canada

Hi guys,

I am a PR holder, i want to bring my sister (minor) who is 11yo to study here, my parents will stay in my home country. Can i be her custodian & legal guardian?

Yes. Your parents will need to apply for admission to school and need to show in their bank account $10-15k for tuition and another $10k for living expenses per year. You can be her guardian.

No. If your parents were in Canada on a work or study permit or PRs, she could attend public school for free. With your logic, every child coming to Canada who is not a PR or citizen would be allowed to go to school for free.

She needs a study permit with admission to a high school and proof of payment of fees. Even if going to a public school, she will have to pay international fees. If she entered Canada as a visitor, she cannot attend school in Canada. Your parents need to show that they can cover tuition and living expenses for her. Budget at least $22-25k per year. but will depend on the school board she is attending.

Technically yes in some areas of Canada but it is also means not following the immigration laws. Would not be a good idea to break immigration laws given your status in Canada, if you want your family members to be able to visit you in the future, etc. The children attending school without status usually have their whole family who are illegal. That means longterm problems ever regularizing their status, not being able to come in and out of Canada, not having family able to visit if they need a visa, etc. If your sister wants to live and study in Canada she must do it the legal way which means paying for her studies, applying for a study permit, etc.
