Hello!

I hope someone can spare some time to share their experience. Here’s the timeline:
  • December 9, 2024: Applied for SOWP and 3 visitor visas for my kids (ages 3, 4, and 7).
  • December 23, 2024: Refused due to non-submission of NBI Clearance.
  • December 26, 2024: Reapplied for SOWP and 3 visitor visas for my kids (ages 3, 4, and 7).
  • January 15, 2025: Approved SOWP and 2 visitor visas for my kids (ages 3 and 4); refused visitor visa for my 7-year-old. Reasons:
    1. As you are school age, you are required to submit a study permit application.
    2. Your proposed length of stay in Canada is inconsistent with a temporary stay given the details you have provided in your application.
  • January 19, 2025: Applied for minor study permit. Looking forward to her approval soon.
Has anyone had a similar experience? If so, were you able to get a study permit for your minor child? Please advise.

Look at processing times for the country child is in to get an idea on timelines.

My niece SP application was refused. =(

January 19, 2025 - Applied for Minor Study Permit
January 29, 2025 - Refused due to the following reasons:
- The purpose of your visit to Canada is not consistent with a temporary stay given the details you have provided in your application
- Your assets and financial situation are insufficient to support the stated purpose of travel for yourself (and any accompanying family member(s), if applicable)

Need advise on when will be the best time to re-apply again her minor SP?

Order GCMS notes. So how much in funds did they show for couple and three children? What is spouse’s NOC because with changes to rules will be more difficult for child to get study permit.

Father is a TEER 3 (Cook).

Mother (SOWP) has a job waiting for her in Canada, so she can start right away once she arrives.

They only showed more than 7K CAD, plus the father’s 3-month pay statements (he has been working in Canada for almost 2 months), and the house and land title in their home country. They thought they didn’t need to show much proof of funds since they will both be working in Canada and that the daughter is a minor so not so much tuition fee needed. I will advise them to order GCMS notes.

@Naturgrl, thanks again for answering my queries. Do you think it would be best to reapply once the parents have at least 6 months of work experience in Canada and some savings? Or should they wait to reapply until they have applied for Provincial Nomination? They plan to apply for MPNP after gaining 6 months of work experience in Winnipeg, MB. It’s just a bit sad that their eldest daughter will have to wait a few months to join her family.

They need a lawyer to discuss options. 7k is not a lot for a family of 5 to settle especially if spouse and other children have not even arrived.

My sister and her two younger kids will be arriving in the first week of March. Perhaps the first step might be to order GCMS notes. Then to secure my sister's employment here in Canada.

Think the whole family needs to reassess their plans. Who is caring for the 3 and 4 year old? They got quite lucky not requiring a study permit for the 4 year old. How long is the WP? What NOC is the mother working in? Getting MPNP is not going to be that easy anymore. They don’t have much savings for a family of 5.
