Dear All ,
I would like to clarify about the minimum requirements for PR card renewal and Citizenship card .
1, Minimum number of days per year we can stay outside Canada after getting PR card .
2, Minimum number of days we need to be present in Canada during the first 5 years for renewal of PR card.
3, Minimum number of days we need to be present in Canada for applying Citizenship.
Thanks in Advance .
Regards,
Jdn
The minimum residency requirement to maintain PR is 730 days in each 5 year period.
For the first 5 years, the number of days is counted from the date you landed, NOT from the date you received your PR card. After that, you need to count back from the date of your application to renew your card.
For citizenship you have to be "physically present in Canada as a permanent resident for at least 1,460 days during the six years immediately before the date of your application. You must also be physically present for at least 183 days during each of four calendar years that are fully or partially within the six years immediately before the date of application."
There's a handy calculator here for citizenship:
https://eservices.cic.gc.ca/rescalc/resCalcStartNew.do?&lang=en&_ga=1.183703782.1911980070.1442335001
Thank you very much for your detailed reply .

So if v completed two yrs in Canada immediately after getting Canada visa. Then v can apply for citizenship? Or v have to wait for 5 yrs?
One more thing i have to ask you brother. I recently got my passport request and the same day i got a job offer letter from one of UAE bank. i want to spend 2-3 yrs in UAE to save money and then move to Canada. i have some family commitments and responsibilities too due to which i can`t stay in canada before 3 yrs. From ur answers, it is clear in my mind that i can max stay out for three yrs from canada after first landing. But what if i will not be able to complete 730 days within 5 yrs? will i able to apply renewal of permanent resident status?

Citizenship requirements are different than PR residency requirements. For citizenship, you must live in Canada for 4 years out of 6 years before you can apply.
If you cannot complete 730 days in 5 years then you may lose your PR status.

thanx for ur response. And the 4 yrs period for citizenship requirement is excluding the period of 2 yrs during PR. its mean if i have to acquire PR recidency and the citizenship. i have to live 6 yrs in canada. 2 yrs out of 5 for PR and 4 /6 for citizenship

No. They can overlap.

Dear,
The article is very clear, i think you outta read it again...!
So it's not 2 years after landing for Citizenship !!!
1. For PR Card Renewal: 730 days in 5 years of physical presence, if you are unable, it's bye bye Canada (no renewal). End of story.
2. For Citizenship: 1460 days of physical presence since your landing OR
1460 days of physical presence in last 6 years (If landing was more then 6 years ago).
Hope it clear now.
