Hello, I am trying to immigrate into Canada through family sponsorship - my husband is going to sponsor me. I have been living in Manitoba since Dec 2014 on Visitor Visas. My only problem is that I need to access my medical records. I have called my doctor's office in the states and they said they are a completely paper office- they have no electronic records. Is it possible for me to ask a doctor here in Canada to request my records from the states? Any and all help is appreciated.
I worked for Drs for over 25 years in the US. Legally you have a right to your records. At most you may have to pay 20.00 for a copy of them and sign a form to get them. But the form can be sent by fax. Some Drs only use paper but they have to make a paper copy for you. Don't be afraid to tell them that your health information is yours and they have to give you your records.
You do realize that you do NOT need your medical records for the Spousal Sponsorship application, right?
Do you have another reason for needing your records?
You will need to have an immigration medical exam by an approved CIC Panel Physician, who then transmits the results to CIC.

My case is that I had Hepatitis B in the past but it cleared up and I'm assuming that's what they need the records for, since it says exactly on the CIC site: You MUST bring any medical reports or test results that you have regarding previous or existing medical conditions.

Yes calling and requesting a fax to anywhere you choose is good but most likely they will ask you to send a Health Information Protection Release . They should be able to send that to you for your signature. It gives them permission to send your health information to the place you say. Here is a link to HIPPA so you can see what I am talking about. http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/privacy/hipaa/modelnotices.html
