Medical Emergency - BOWP / PR

Folks,

My current WP is expiring on 31st Jan 2014.
Applied for PR under CEC on 20th Dec 2013.
Applied for BOWP online on 19th Jan 2014.
My flight is booked to leave canada on 31st Jan 2014.

Now i have medical emergency and Dr is asking us to stay for few weeks beyond 31st Jan 2014, Can i extend the OHIP if i get BOWP approved? or need any employer help? Also my company provided insurance will expire on 31st Jan 2014 as well.

Please suggest.

Yes. You can get your health card extended if you get your bridge open WP. I got mine extended for an year. No help needed from Employer for heath card renewal.

That sounds good...Last week ServiceOntario guys told me that they need a employer letter when i casually enquired i.e before this medical situation.

BTW, With BOWP is any worklocation fine or still confined to my closed WP location? In BOWP request i put my current location as city and let the address details empty and employer details empty.

An OWP itself means any employer any location, so i think it should not confine to you current location

I think they might have told you their normal procedure. I took my original open WP + the OB485 (now its OB485-A) printout, just in case. They didn't ask any employer letter. For me it appeared like they are aware of this case type already & so extended health card right away.

Just refer to last sentence in 'Bridging Work Permit Issuance' section of the OB485-A if required. You should be fine.

FYI - I got my health card renewed at this centre: Etobicoke Counter, Unit 142, 3300 Bloor Street West.
