Hi,
I am not in Canada right now. I plan on coming in 2024 on a visitor visa. However, I would like to extend my stay by getting married. It is a genuine, we'll have been dating for 3 years in 2024.
I have read in another website that marrying a citizen as a non-resident would bring heavy taxation and I shall not be able to work for 3 years. How much is an estimate of the tax I am to pay? I wouldn't mind paying it given that my funds are enough.
Or if I get PR and get married, would I still have to fulfill that?

That's a relief, thanks for letting me know! We were really worried about it.
And what should I keep in mind about marrying a Canadian citizen? What are the hardships?

From the time you submit the spousal sponsorship application (after you get married), it may be 4-8 months before you are allowed to work. During this time, you most likely also will not qualify for provincial health care coverage (meaning you would need to take out private insurance for emergencies and cover non-emergency medical expenses out of pocket).
