Me and my fiancé are getting married in Vegas in 4 months, she's from Canada AB and I'm from the uk. She wants me to get permanent residency and live with her in Edmonton as her job and career is there.
I worked and lived in Alberta for 2 years on a work visa hence where I met her. Basically my question is do I have a chance of becoming a permanent resident of Canada once we're married? We're trying to think ahead to overcome any obstacles that come in our way.
You have every chance of becoming a PR . Once you are married you can then file your papers . In the meantime have a look at the package and start gathering all the documents you will need and proof of relationship .
Once you are married, she can apply to sponsor you as her spouse. You can submit the application(s) as soon as you are married.
You can even`visit' her while you await the processing of your application (providing that you are not deemed inadmissible to Canada).
The total fee will be $1040:
$75- Sponsor evaluation fee
$475- Applicant's fee
$490- Right of Permanent Residence fee
You would also need to provide police clearance (known as PCC) from any country where you have lived, for 6 months or longer, since age 18.
And...you will need an immigration physical, that needs to be conducted by an approved `panel physician'; a list of which is available on the CIC website.
