Marriage Question

Been trying to read multiple threads on here about marriage. However, I have not been able to find specifically what I am looking for. My fiancé and I recently got engaged. He is currently a full time student in Toronto (originally from Ecuador). I am an American Citizen. I have been traveling back and forth on a regular basis so we can be together, but now we are looking at starting our life together. My question is, what options do I have. Assuming that we would go through the process of being married in Canada (obtaining a marriage license, becoming married, etc.). Once married I would have to leave Canada while his visa application is resubmitted with my info attached to be entered in as a spouse (hoping that a work permit would also be issued so I can support our new family).

Not really sure how this works, hoping someone can shed a little light on the subject and point me in the right direction.
