Permanent Resident here. My husband and I just got married a month ago and now I want to sponsor him to live here in Canada as well. Is it important that I change my marital status here first before I fill up for a sponsor application? which important legal documents I should work on changing my status here like passport, PR and CRA?
This will contain a list of all paperwork and relationship evidence required.
I don't know which passport you hold, but UK one definitely doesn't show marital status. IMHO gathering the checklist documents would be my priority. Adding husband as beneficiary of your life insurance, opening joint bank account, changing rental/mortgage agreement to joint names, etc.
EDITED: I'm still holding a Philippine Passport. Says here on the specific requirements for the principal applicant that for him to establish the marital status, he just needs to submit the PSA document which provides the details about any marriages registered in our country.
I'm good in submitting any evidence like photos, text messages, letters, etc. to show our relationship is real. I just thought about my marital status here in Canada is still single and maybe it might affect the application because of that.

You should update your status with CRA. Usually you have to do this whether you want to sponsor someone or not, so you should do that. Then you could add this as evidence of your relationship when you submit the application to sponsor your husband.
There is no official marriage registration process in Canada. Once you are married outside Canada, you are immediately considered married inside Canada as well. The only mandatory place you need to tell this, is (as mentioned above) to the CRA for tax purposes. Anyone else you tell (like insurance company, etc) is entirely up to you. Your IDs like passport, drivers license, etc do not show your marital status.
If anyone needs proof of your marriage, you would show your foreign marriage certificate with an english translation if needed.
I would like to have some clarifications on this issue. I am a PR here in canada and my husband and i got married last month, which means i am still single and using my maiden name on my PR card, my question is do I need to change my last name first before i process his spousal Sponsorship or i can proceed with his sponsorship even without changing my last name on my PR CARD yet?

Sorry..... what?? There’s no law here (or most western countries) saying you must change your surname, most will do, some may even combine both surnames, and some continue to use their own surnames.

That's what I thought too... 'cause what i know is if i change my PR card first that would take long before I start to process my husband's papers.. and when you said you updated your status with cra, did you mean updating it online?

ok thank you very much for responding to all my questions and one more thing, while the papers are on process, can my husband come over once in a while to visit me? that wouldn't make ny problem or does it?
Upon updating my marital status with CRA online, do I also need to change my last name? 'cause when I updated the status online I only change the SINGLE to MARRIED but my last name is still showing my maiden name...
