I am on PGWP and my spouse on SOWP in Canada. Both our WPs are expiring in January 2024.
We are in the EE pool at a CRS score of 454. My score alone is 473. This is a pretty low score so i am not expecting an ITA before our WP expires.
Any suggestions on how can we maintain the status after our WP expires in January 2024?

One option would be to apply to change your status to visitor. This will allow you to remain in Canada for some period longer, but obviously you won't be able to work.
Another option would be to have your current employer (or a new employer) obtain an approved LMIA so that you can switch to a closed work permit.

Thanks for your reply! I have a full-time job which i don't want to loose and LMIA is hard to get. I was thinking if i apply for my PR alone and get an ITA before the work permit expires, can i apply to extend the status of my spouse? if so, how soon can i apply after ITA?

A new temporary public policy has been introduced to allow eligible present and former post-graduation work permit (PGWP) holders to apply between April 6, 2023, and December 31, 2023, for an open work permit that will be valid for up to 18 months. In order for applicants to be considered under this policy
their PGWPs must have expired or be expiring between September 20, 2021, and December 31, 2023
their applications must be received on or after the effective date (April 6, 2023) and on or before the expiry date (December 31, 2023), or the date of revocation if applicable
Thanks for your reply! I should have provided an exact date, it expires on Jan 1, 2024 precisely, updated the post. so unfortunately i don't qualify for the permit extension therefore i am getting worried with every day passing.
